Fast jedes Land hat "seine Schweiz" und so gibt es auch in Lettland eine "lettische Schweiz", die Gegend um das hübsche Städtchen Sabile in Kurland am Abava-Fluß. Die Gegend ist zwar nicht ausgesprochen alpin, aber Sabile liegt in der Nähe eines kleinen Wintersportgebietes. Denn es gibt ein paar Hügel, auf einem wächst sogar Wein, es soll der nördlichste Weinberg der Welt sein!
Das ist aber nicht der Grund warum ich hier auf Sabile zu schreiben komme... Im Sommer fuhr ich mit Sue und Carol nach Alsunga und die Route führte auch durch Sabile, der Bus machte dort halt. Auch wenn ich nur wenig gesehen habe, so blieb mir der Ort doch im Gedächtnis, machte Eindruck. Das musste ein besonderer Ort sein!
Mit dieser Empfindung stehe ich nicht alleine, denn der Autor eines Beitrages über Sabile auf der Seite www.latvia.travel drückt seine Wahrnehmung so aus:

und www.lettland.info schreibt:

Na dann lohnt es sich ja doppelt, dort einmal Halt zu machen. Vielleicht im Sommer 2023?
Die alte Synagoge aus dem Jahre 1890, die nach der Ausrottung der jüdischen Bevölkerung mehrfach umgenutzt wurde (Schule, Sporthalle, Lagerhalle), beherbergt seit einigen Jahren das Kulturzentrum von Sabile, und wurde nach großartiger Renovierung neu eröffnet als Sabile Art, Culture and Tourism Center und genau dort wird es im nächsten Jahr eine ganz besondere Ausstellung geben.
SENA KLETS, das lettische Trachtenzentrum, kooperiert mit dem Kultur- und Kunstzentrum Sabile und dem Lettischen Nationalen Institut für Kultur und lädt ein zur Beteiligung an der für den Sommer 2023 geplanten Handschuh-Ausstellung.
Deshalb veröffentliche ich hier den Aufruf zur Beteiligung an dieser Ausstellung. Ich weiß ja daß viele meiner Leserinnen wahre Wunderwerke stricken!

We invite you to participate in this exhibition! The theme of the exhibition is patterned mittens, knitted in Latvian mitten knitting traditions.
Any knitter, both from Latvia and abroad, can participate in the exhibition of Latvian mittens. The work of the exhibition are mittens made by the author himself - the copy of mittens from museum materials or a creative work of the author. The author can subnmit up to 10 pairs of mittens made after 2018. Information about the pair of mittnes must include the author's name, surname, and year of manufacture and museum number, if made from museum materials (museum data or publication source).
Knitters from abroad must send mittens photos by e-mail to cimdi@senaklets.lv until february 1, 2023.
Then the jury of the exhibition will look each photo and will evaluate according to the following criteria: composition of mittens, technical solutions of mittens, knitting technique, compliance with traditions or innovation based on traditions.
After evaluation, we will select mittens that meet the criterai and will ask you to send its and submit for the exhibition by april 1, 2023, by delivering or sending them with a reference "The Exhibition 'Adi.Radi.Radi" to Sabile art, culture and tourism information center, Strautu iela 4, Sabile, Sabile city, LV-3294 or Latvian National Cultural Center, Pils laukums 4, Riga, LV-1365.
